Support of CMI’s work to promote peace!

The Ahlström family supports the efforts of Martti Ahtisaari’s CMI to promote peace worldwide.

In the Ahlström family, bearing social responsibility is something that runs in the blood. The founders of the family business, Antti and Eva Ahlström, were important philanthropists at the end of the 19th century. Ahlström Capital is one of Finland’s leading private investment firms. The Eva Ahlström Foundation was established in 2010. Both Ahlström Capital and the Foundation support CMI’s efforts to solve the world’s toughest violent conflicts.

“Working to improve the world is above all a privilege,” says Maria Bondestam. Bondestam is chair of the Eva Ahlström Foundation and an Ahlström by birth. The Foundation supports CMI and other expert agencies in helping poor families, and especially women and children. “Social stability is the foundation for everything,” Bondestam says. ”Without peace there is nothing. It’s essential to tackle the root causes of conflict, and to invest in prevention.” CMI is one of the world’s leading peace mediators and works in the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Africa.

CEO of Ahlström Capital Hans Sohlström firmly believes in corporate social responsiblity. Indeed, this has been the company’s watchword from the beginning. Nowadays enterprise is far more complex and global than in Eva and Antti Ahlström’s day and wars and conflict have far-reaching effects. “Businesses cannot close their eyes to what is going on in the world,” Sohlström says. “It is important to us to support Finnish peacebuilding throughout the world which is more sorely needed now than it ever was.”

The Eva Ahlström Foundation and Ahlström Capital are important contributors to CMI. Former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari founded CMI in 2000 to solve and prevent violent conflicts through negotiation and dialogue. Read more about CMI at
