The Eva Ahlström Foundation was founded in the spring 2010 by a group of female heirs of Eva Ahlström. The name of the Eva Ahlström Foundation was chosen to honour the matriarch Eva Ahlström (1848-1920).

Eva and her husband Antti (1827-1896), gave generous donations to develop health care, education and culture. The couple worked devotedly to ensure that the next generation of Finns, especially girls, would receive schooling. Their motto was that wealth imposes obligations.

The Eva Ahlström Foundation is founded and managed by members of the Ahlström family. The general conception of the founding members of the Eva Ahlström Foundation was to continue the path laid out by their ancestors.

According to the founding rules, the purpose of the foundation is to “support organisations, societies or individual persons in Finland and abroad, with a good and documented reputation to work globally and locally to support women, children and others that are in an exposed situation due to poverty, oppression, war, political instability, natural disasters or other difficult circumstances”.
